Follow up letter

Dear (Name of MP),

(If you have not written to the MP before, introduce yourself and explain your connection with the constituency and languages)

Following your recent response to (my / name of letter writer) letter and your (re-) election to (name of constituency), I am keen to hear your views on the policies that should be adopted by your party to reverse the recent decline in the numbers of students learning languages in our schools, colleges and universities.

Pick up on two or three key points of concern from the response quoting personal / local examples. You could include a hyperlink to the MP’s original response for ease of reference.

Ask your MP what he / she proposes to do to address these concerns, and whether they would be prepared to endorse the Manifesto for Languages published by the All Party Parliamentary Group on Modern Languages?

In case you have not already seen it, the Manifesto for Languages can be read here:

http://blog.britishcouncil.org/appg-modernlanguages/2014/07/13/press-release-appg-launches-manifesto-for-languages/

With your permission I should like to post this letter and your response on the Speak to the Future website (www.speaktothefuture.org ) which will publish the views of MPs.

I look forward to your reply.

Yours sincerely,
